No more golden spots

Since FM moved to San Francisco last August, I was one of those lucky rats to ride a Vespa and park for free on the newly “remodeled” block next to work. See, when a city remodels a block, aka builds a brand new luxury apartment high-rise, it takes them a while before they figure out the street parking situation.

1) They make a nice sidewalk and don’t paint the curb, which means you can park there for an unlimited amount of time.

2) They figure when the heck they’re going to clean the street and puts up a sign. So still able to park there anytime, except when they clean the street.

3) Put parking meter polls one morning.

4) Put the actual meter on the polls the afternoon.

5) Start charging.

Luckily, they didn’t give tickets to the motorcycles and cars that were parked on that block the day they planted the meters. But we’re not always lucky like that. The night before they put the street cleaning sign up, Justin decided to leave his scooter overnight. And guess what? The next morning, the street cleaning sign was up (unannounced), the street got cleaned that morning and a ticket was tucked into his scooter glove compartment.

Anyways, I will look back nostalgically at the times when I could just show up and park for free. Now I have to fit my little blue Vespa hiney in a specially designed motorcycle metered spot and pay $2.50/day. Ok, that’s not a lot, but it’s more than $0. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise and it will motivate me to walk more often. Hmm.

Kiva

I’ve been meaning to blog about my investments with Kiva and never quite found the right moment until I got paid back enough money to be able to re-lend.

For those of you who don’t know about Kiva, in a nutshell, it’s basically an organization that allows anyone to make micro-loans to people around the world. It helps these people build or expand their business, whatever it might be.

For example, I helped a couple in Cambodia get more pigs for breeding. A woman in Ghana who had a used clothing business and needed to get more used clothes in order to sell more. And thanks to the first two paying me back a little, I was able to re-lend this money to a woman in Peru who needed some work done on her taxi.

kiva

I can’t even begin to express how awesome this concept is! I guess it’s so awesome that Kiva has a hard time keeping up with lenders, that’s how awesome it is!

Like I say in my Kiva profile, “it makes me feel like the world is moving towards a sustainable direction instead of creating more gaps”. When you think about it, I am a business partner of entrepreneurs around the world.

Just a little snow…

Here are a few photos from our “bright and sunny” trip to Mt. Shasta last weekend. We got to drive on snow, dig out the car from more than a foot of snow, put chains on and snowshoe whilst the snow just kept on falling.

Oh and that first picture is just me wearing lots of colorful, un-matching layers and finding it pretty funny. I have fun with little things :)

Burn the Floor

Ok, this is another dance post, I couldn’t resist. We went to see a show that absolutely everyone should check out and they tour the world, so where ever you are you should be able to catch it.

It’s high energy, precise, sexy, creative and did I say sexy? It’s ballroom. Now don’t you go imagine your grandpa and grandma style of couple dancing. This is smokin’! There are live musicians and singers which they integrate in the show intricately unlike most productions. So much fun!

They are currently performing at the Post Theatre in San Francisco through March 15th. You can get cheaper tickets here. And if you are somewhere else in the US or in the world, check out their tour dates.

They are a gift to our senses.
